About Liam Walker
Liam Walker is a professional vocalist and singer-song writer drawing his vocal style from mainly soul, R&B, blues and Americana influences.
Liam Walker is a proficient writer, recording and performing artist and produces his own material, alongside working on a variety of other collaboration projects with other artists.
His vocal style has been compared to early Paul Rogers, Marvin Gaye, Justin Vernon of Bon Iver amongst others. He has two distinct styles - falsetto folly singer-song writer and soulful blues Motown.
Liam grew up in a small cottage in Grisdale Forest in the Lake District. Days full of walking and playing outside alongside his woodsman father, nights spent full of stories and music in which front room recitals were a regular part of growing up. It was at this time that the family joked that Liam could “almost get a tune out of any instrument”. Nature and music were always his to explore and his ease with both is evident in tracks that he constructs.
From his mother's scrapbooks and tales of pilgrimages as a young woman in the '60s and '70s to see the music icons of her day, to listening to his father play while evoking in great detail the gigs he'd attended (right down to the smell of the cloakroom in The Cavern Club in the '60s), Walker soaked up musical history along with the sounds themselves from the earliest age.
His own playing started with a homemade kit built around a snare drum his father found in a scrapyard. Liam lovingly refurbished it, added kit around it and taught himself to play. This was followed by the gift of a steel-strung guitar from his Aunt Madeline which was his first step towards becoming a singer-songwriter.
The future looks bright for Liam who did Chesterfield proud when he recently performed on ITV’s The Voice. He won the hearts of the audience and millions watching on TV - but not could not persuade the show’s coaches to take him on - although they have since admitted they might have made a mistake.
Reflecting on his performance which has now received over 348,000 views, Liam said, “since my audition aired on television there has been a bit of a social media frenzy. I think people were disappointed the coaches did not turn around. I have received thousands of messages of love and support and lots and lots of offers of different things. It’s just really strange, literally within about three minutes of it being aired my phone went absolutely mental.”
He has been, quite rightly, inundated with offers including a couple of opportunities from already signed bands as well as an offer of a tour and studio recording. Watch this space, Liam is going places.
